Origins of L for Leather

Over 4 years ago, I originally set out to hand make wooden items such as charcuterie boards, chopping boards, tealight holders, and other simple yet stylish products. Unfortunately, a serious accident involving a table saw (and my thumb!!), led me to sell all my woodworking tools and supplies. Despite this setback, my love for natural materials—particularly the grain and colour found in wood—remained strong, and I still wanted a creative hobby that allowed me to make and sell products while donating a percentage of the profits to charity.

I explored several creative avenues, including sea glass art, pottery, and mosaic work, before eventually discovering leather crafting. I attended courses with a highly skilled professional leather worker, where I learned the fundamentals needed to create items such as belts, dog collars, and card holders. Like any new craft, it required a great deal of practice—and plenty of mistakes—which proved costly given the price of leather.

This led me to the idea of sourcing leather directly from tanneries, making the learning process more affordable and sustainable. I began contacting tanneries around the world and ultimately partnered with two that stood out for their exceptional quality, variety, and colour range. After receiving excellent samples, I placed larger orders and established this small business.

I then began sourcing high-quality hardware from suppliers across the globe, carefully selecting components that complement the leather and give each product a professional finish. My daughters are now working alongside me to introduce new and exciting items to our range—so watch this space!
